Kentucky Power Company Shutting Three Coal Units

Reuters reports that Louisville Gas and Electric Co, a subsidiary of PPL Corp (NYSE:PPL), announced plans to shut three coal units at the Cane Run Power Plant eight months ahead of schedule, saying that a natural gas unit will feed the supply instead.

As quoted in the market report:

Having received timely certificates and permits from the Kentucky Public Service Commission and other regulatory agencies, we were able to get a quick start on the project and now should be able to retire the coal-fired units sooner than expected,” said Paul Thompson, senior vice president of energy services.
